Hello hello.

Top o' the Tuesday morning to you guys. I haven't written on here for awhile, so I thought I'd give y'all an update as to what's going on in my life...First of all, I'm homeless for two and half days (not literally...our house is being fumigated and so I've been staying at a local motel exactly one minute walking distance to work), I have sausage fingers and baguette feet - for some reason my hands and feet have swollen up and are really painful and burning...they feel like open wounds and it hurts to do anything...anyone know what it could be? My boyfriend's in Costa Rica so I've been spending time with friends...you gotta love 'em...and I've had a lot of bonding time with my puppy...That's pretty much it. Oh my coworkers just came in and recapped all the symptoms I've had over the last year and pretty much summarized that I've racked up a $30,000 copay bill...funny, but not funny, all at the same time. Oye.

Anyway, onto vintage news: Summer and I have been discussing doing a vintage package giveaway. We're going over specifics right now, but it might involve creating your favorite outfit from the items in our shop ORRRR showing us your personal vintage style...we'll let you know when details are figured out!! SO EXCITING!

DARLING DAHLIA!

I just purchased this lovely pair of earrings from softspoken.etsy.com and let me tell you...I'M SO EXCITED TO WEAR THEM. They're very unique (handcrafted with cotton thread and stiffened to stabilize the flower shape) and sure to stand out with their bright red color. Everyone be sure to check this shop out where you'll find other goodies like handmade scarves, cowls, berets, clothing AS WELL as beloved vintage items. A note to softspoken: please continue to make more of these, I'm sure they're going to be a hit!

wino

I love wine, and that's no lie. I have a soft spot for red Zinfandel which I have been sucking Cecilia into the same grasp. big, bold and spicy 'plungerhead zinfandel' is some yummy stuff. plus the label is silly to look at and I always enjoy some great design. so if you come across this zin you should give it a try.

shorts stuff...

High waisted, short shorts really do make an impression, past and present. I was under the impression that showing leggage back in the day was a no-no, but look how hot Miss Marilyn looked. Cute and fun and would really love to own a pair, but don't know if I'd be able to really own it the way these ladies do...Oh well, I'll be on the lookout for some hotpants.

Just a thought...

So as I was looking through our current inventory in our shop, I started noticing that some items would look great together...what do you think about this combo?

We're delving into the wedding and couture side of vintage!

It's official, we've just started our vintage wedding and couture category in our shop. We're planning to stockpile this category with a lot of classic old beauties...especially since the wedding motto is "something OLD, something new, something borrowed, something blue..." We'll most likely have 3 out of that 4 criteria overtime...so for those of you who've just been proposed to or those already on the path to making your wedding perfect, keep an eye on our shop! We're sure to deliver something fantastic for you! :)

Oh, btw, this red gown is the first in the category...more on the couture side, but could look great as a bridesmaid dress!

Oh Audrey...

I'm still rummaging through my old photoblog and I found this picture of Audrey Hepburn that I took on my television...Before knowing I was going to get into vintage, it seems I already had an interest (and might I say, good taste) in classic pieces...On my old blog I had commented that she has a pretty dress and I want it. The testament still stands true today, so I hope Summer and I come across a dress like that and it will be GLOOORIOUS. And btw, Audrey Hepburn is one of the greatest. Ever.

Just found this...

...this picture from my old photoblog site...It's me and the Sums from the good ol' days when we were still in school...crazy to think that we've been homie-g-funks for about 6 years...and still going strong!

Melody Gardot is so dreeeamy...

Today I hurriedly and anxiously bought Melody Gardot's new album, My One and Only Thrill. Automatic A++++ from me!

Melody would be symbolic of what Summer and I are trying to accomplish with our vintage business...combining old with the new.

I came across this amazing woman about a month and a half ago through itunes and I've been in love with her voice since then. Talk about combining old with new...Something about her voice is reminiscent of the past, as if the souls of the likes of Ella Fitzgerald or Nina Simone (in terms of feeling) and Rosemary Clooney (in terms of a closer similarity in vocal stylings) lodged themselves in her as a vocal vessel. Yet, she brings to the table a very modern touch, that certain "je ne sais qua" that makes her appeal to today's audience. Soothing, haunting, aching, smokey yet clear as a bell, and overall dreamy...She definitely is an up and coming jazz talent.

Don't forget to check out her prior album, Worrisome Heart.

Accentuate the waist...

with some Brown-Braided-Leather-Belts!

After my (Cecilia) shopping spree this week, I ended up coming home with a semi-skinny brown leather belt from Eddie Bauer...
I know leather belts maybe yesterday's news (ha...), but to me I think they're pretty fresh and can spunk up any outfit. Be it an elegant dress, a loose pretty silk slip, your favorite jeans, etc. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new belt.

(I even came up with a new dance move called the "Belts and the Boots". It'll be the next biggest thing...watch out now!)

My New Favorite Belt

Haha...Stimulus Plan...

Wise words....

Found this at Ballast.

Save the world...go Second Hand!

"21. SECOND-HAND DOESN'T MEAN SECOND-BEST
Consider buying items from a second-hand store. Toys, bicycles, roller blades, and other age and size-specific items are quickly outgrown. Second hand stores often sell these items in excellent condition since they are used for such a short period of time, and will generally buy them back when you no longer need them."

(In our case, go Vintage...recycling "aged"/timeless pieces aids in the effort to conserve energy and resources.)

Found that through Chris Glass's site...a lovely designed page (by Wire & Twine) offering tips on helping save the world's resources.

Check it out, save it as a PDF (don't print and waste paper) and use it as a constant reminder of the little things we can all do each day to help the world.

50 WAYS TO HELP.

Music Whore.

So I, Cecilia, humbly admit to the world that Yes, I AM A MUSIC WHORE. Love the folsky, indie sound...music with violins or ukuleles...the depths of jazz soul, the innocence of the female vocal, the blues of daptone or motown, and the occasional international twist (splash of Brazilian is quite wonderful)...

So today, I was on my usual music hoarding spree and came across such artist like Birdie Busch (female folk stylings) and Jason Collett (coming from Broken Social Scene), and the inspirational Karen Dalton. Let me tell you, they're great. Songs with substance, songs about the time...really worth listening to...

Do it up. Go out and be a music whore!!

Day of La Mesa Street Fair

Finally! Our big event, taking the online world into the streets! After a rigorous week of doing errands and a long Saturday night, a rough morning of loading and setting up (thanks Scott!!!) we finally made it to the 6th annual La Mesa Antique Street Fair. The street fair went pretty well, aside from the moody weather. We met some great people – high-spirited, curious and very complimentary of what we had to offer. It was quite a long day and the two of us had very few hours (or minutes in my case) to function on, but it was well worth it. Got our name out there and shared the love of vintage! A few of our memorable customers were: Amy McNamara (owner if Trés Fabu, a reborn furniture shop in La Mesa with SUPER CUTE pieces) who purchased our lovely Selleck leather jacket (it looked fabulous on her and we appreciate that it brought some viewers our way!); Allison (Summer's coworker at Gio's in La Mesa) who purchased a cute heart necklace; this cute little girl who purchased a lovely pair of black gloves (even at a young age she knows that vintage rocks and we hope she can spread that appreciation with her cute style); and finally these 3 lovely women who were soooo enthusiastic about everything we had ( they were so fun and lively and we loved having them visit our booth!). Anyway, we had a lot of fun, and we especially want to thank everyone who came by and showed support. And again many thanks to our wonderful boyfriends, Scott and Jon for helping with the set up and take down and sushi dinner afterwards! :) It was a great way to advertise and the stuff that hasn't been snatched up will be featured in our spring line very soon. Here are a few pictures of our booth!
